A Celebration of Mediaeval Music at the Priory of St Pancras, Lewes, Saturday, 11th May 2013

Discover the joy of music sung in the Priory, over 500 years ago

Lewes Priory Trust and the internationally acclaimed Schola Gregoriana of Cambridge present a programme of learning, singing, performance, lectures and entertainments celebrating mediaeval musical traditions

HOW TO GET INVOLVED
Learn the chant (in Latin) and sing in the Priory with the Schola Gregoriana (no previous experience necessary) - Attend the lecture and entertainment - Join in a monks’ feast.

Programme
9am-2pm St Pancras Church, Lewes. Rehearse music from the Lewes Breviary with the Schola Gregoriana in preparation for the evening performance. Come willing to learn. Lunch included. Tickets: £15 (*£13)

2.30pm-3.30pm St John the Baptist Church, Southover.‘Cluniac Liturgy’. Lecture by Dr Nicolas Bell, Curator of Music Collections at the British Library. Tickets: £5 (*£3.50)

3.45pm-5.30pm St John the Baptist Church, Southover. Further rehearsal for those singing in the Priory.

6pm-7pm Reredorter in Priory Park. (inside at Southover Church if wet). Schola Gregoriana and participating singers will process, in robes, to sing vespers in the Priory ruins. Entrance Free (retiring collection).

7pm-8pm St John the Baptist Church, Southover. A celebratory monks’ feast featuring hearty, aromatic, locally sourced food. A glass of wine and tea or coffee included. Tickets: £10 (*£9) (book by Monday 6th May)

8.30pm-10pm St John the Baptist Church, Southover. illustrated lecture, recital and musical entertainment presented by Dr Mary Remnant, author and expert in mediaeval music, instruments and liturgy. ‘Music, Minstrels and Instruments in the lifetime of St Anselm (1033-1109)’, with audience participation. Tickets: £8 (*£6.50)

Whole day ticket £35 (*£32)

Mass of St Pancras (Sung in Latin), St Pancras Church, Lewes, Sunday 12th May, 12.30pm. St Pancras Schola and Schola Gregoriana. All welcome
